NZ politics, internet bullshit, -/~
I am so tired of the fact internet leftists are so surrounded in injustices and toxicity that all they know is that toxicity.
Anyone seeking to spread love, to enjoy other things, or to state "this is not us" in the face of hate, it's met with armchair activists that behave like it's not good enough, or that it's not allowed because they're convinced everyone else is evil people. All that does is produce further othering and negativity.
In the case of NZ's tragedy, "This Is Not Us" is a message of unity, to show we will not let nazis and hate define our country and people. But internet leftists decide it's not good enough.
Here's the thing. Anything can be co-opted by nazis. That's their MO. They corrupt statements such that they can't be used by tolerant people, until they're only used by nazis.
The conclusion to take from that *isn't* to not use things that they might. It's to not let them use those statements in the first place. It's to see through statements that, when said by nazis, are just window-dressing for hate.
Game/software preservation is important.
Ownership by license, always-online DRM, and ownership tied to online libraries - they're all unreliable and publishers will take away your purchase and not give back if they so wish. Or even try to resell it later.

This sort of thing is why I'll always prefer physical copies of games over digital. That, and I don't have the internet to be downloading anything over like, 3GB.
frustrated about network effects
Twitter changing things that don't need changing, while leaving open problems like nazis and abuse.
And everyone I know continues to fucking use it because network effects.
Get offfff theeeeere. get off get off get off stop using it stop it
Some of them have started to use Tumblr less since the porn ban, but Twitter has been going downhill since the calloutfest of 2018.
Now I will give them as much - the new design has some good ideas, but I also feel like they could still be abused, and also it's just an ugly mess to look at.
Time travel fiction brainfart.
It sure is weird that time travel fiction in a thing in the first place - the idea that you could travel to the past and change history. That a point in time can have a "before" and "after" a change.
Like, why should time travel specifically be able to do that? What would make travel through time alter history, that travel through space does not? It makes more sense as a result for history to be immutable - a time traveller always exists in that point in time.
I feel like I had some kinda point but now I'm just confusing myself. You could probably argue that it's the unnatural act of travelling through time that creates an alternate history, though one that technically always existed too.

huh.
... those are still totally RPG Maker sound effects and tiles though. (Though their composition is slightly different.)
PSA about Russian state propaganda outlets (boost with content warnings for politics, mention of queerphobia)
From @June in two parts

For folks who don't know: RT and In The Now are actual propaganda designed to be consumable and attractive to progressive Western audiences. They are a facet of the overall propaganda structure that includes Russia Today's internal (within Russia, in Russian) propaganda. Russia Today is much more directly anti-queer, anti-Semitic, etc, and RT filters this into a package DESIGNED to be palatable to English-speaking westerners, with the goal of spreading "just asking questions" style disinfo.

Do not share RT and In The Now (which is of course designed explicitly to look like NowThis) content, even if it seems innocuous. If it's something legit sounding, find another several sources for it. Supporting these platforms in any way is helping people do serious harm to queer people and other minorities.
I'm an artist and something of a game dev living in New Zealand.
I talk about personal things that can get tangentially NSFW. While I wouldn't call this an after-dark account, it's kind of a mishmash personal account and prefer to mingle with people I know or trust.
