Other tech industry garbage, caps and yelling
"Warner Bros has signed a deal for a AI-driven film management system which will help decision-making for greenlighting certain films. The AI system can assess an actor’s value in any territory and how much a film is expected to earn in theaters."
aaaAAAAAAAGH
WE DON'T HAVE AI
WE HAVE COMPUTER PROGRAMS
STUPID COMPUTER PROGRAMS
This obsession with the algorithm as ""AI"" is fucking frustrating because it convinces idiotic CEOs and bosses that all these scripts and programs and neural networks that we have, are actually super-intelligent unbiased magical machines that can solve all of their problems.
The programs are stupid!! They literally suffer from the Dunning–Kruger effect! They're faulty!! They frequently get things wrong or show severe biases reflective of gender/racial discrimination! Numbers mean nothing without context!!

Twitter, tech industry
Twitter wants to implement a feature to limit who can reply to your tweets. Sounds good in theory, if not for quote and screenshot retweets. Which Twitter is aware of, but it doesn't change anything.
Also remember that disastrously ugly "little t" beta that was circulating months ago? Yeah, they're still thinking about that.
Frankly, Twitter is missing the obvious problem that has no solution but it's own non-existence - Twitter's volume is unmanageable. You can't realistically curate and moderate that without dismantling it.

Twitter is such a mess. The algorithmic timeline actively filters out people it decides are not engagement worthy.
And if the replies are anything to go by, it's starting to AB test to remove the latest tweets button.
AB testing is basically gaslighting.
Various Furaffinity redesign thoughts
It's definitely less 90s?
It apparently has some layout problems on mobile, but I don't make use of it as an art site, never mind on my phone, so I don't have a comment on that.
Most modern web design sacrifices functionality of desktop layout to support mobile use, this design doesn't seem to do that, at least.
Aesthetically it's better, but layout-wise it's a mess. Things are either under-polished (weird alignments, too wide a layout) or placed in ways that don't have sensible hierarchy (the sidebar next to the art itself).
The new logo is a mixed bag. The old one suffered from the modern flat colour and Helvetica trend, but I still liked it. This one is more unique but graffiti is rather 00s, isn't it?
On Gacha
I don't understand how anyone can stand to even touch gacha mobile games. The predatory design puts me off any other appealing elements, and shows the publishers/devs to have so much contempt towards their userbase.
I played the SMT mobile game and it just got more and more slimy over time.
It constantly advertised its own sales, it was slowly harder to get anything worthwhile, leaving gameplay feeling stale, some summon ranks became locked behind pay-only...
I recently learned about the Dissidia gacha and the character interaction sounds really appealing to me, and supposedly the gacha is "fair", but also, nyeeeh. It's all ultimately trying to get you to throw money at chance.
And not throwing money at it still leaves things to chance, which is ultimately a time-waster.
A good game would make sure your work is earned in equal measure. A good game wouldn't decide that after hours of grind you failed simply because of random chance.

This is a good thread, but it's a lot.
Ultimately comes down to that we put up with a lot of bad design because it's our only choice, we're walled in by SV's culture of back-rubbing over crippled innovation, and are losing things in the process.
I've complained before about feeling like W10 is dumbed down to not scare the technologically incompetent, but there's things beyond this that I've not considered before. Things like altering user behaviour because the options simply don't exist in modern software/UI.
It's hard to say what can be done about it. Maybe it's just that we need to praise legit good design more often. Not "good enough" design.
I have learned today that Fail Army, the comedy series on NZ TV... is actually straight copied from some American TV show - which is copied from a Youtube channel, which just steals videos.
They get given the footage and are only allowed to replace the hosts and dubbing.
It's kind of wild how desperate broadcast TV is to be relevant, such it resorts stealing content from the internet and then puts 5-7 minutes of ads in. Looking at you, "X That Make You Laugh Out Loud".

I'm an artist and something of a game dev living in New Zealand.
I talk about personal things that can get tangentially NSFW. While I wouldn't call this an after-dark account, it's kind of a mishmash personal account and prefer to mingle with people I know or trust.
