google stadia

i am privileged enough that i could probably use this if i wanted to (decent internet with no cap)

and there's some things i could see this being useful for and saving bandwidth even in heavy cap scenarios (such as instant access demos of a 100gb+ game)

but
1. that first paragraph definitely isn't true for all people

google stadia

2. this appears to require publishers to do a specific port to it? (the version of ac: odyssey running isn't the pc version ported to linux, it's the console version ported to stadia)
3. there is absolutely no way i will pay for an individual stream only game - it has to be a netflix model if i'm going to pay for something i truly don't own.

i'd rather devs make proper linux ports
and i'm more interested as a consumer in ms's thing because i'm already paying for game pass

google stadia

additionally google's habit of making a thing then sunsetting it pretty quickly does not make me confident in new products from them that are free because they get to mine all the data, never mind a paid service

---

also, you can keep 4K streaming, what I want is 480p-720p streaming to the switch in handheld mode

google stadia - google sunsetting in general

oh did you know that google plus is closing next month

a product google deemed so important that they tried to implement it (badly) into absolutely everything

how many messenger apps are they on now, 5?

google stadia - ports

also the needing specific ports thing is pretty much an immediate death sentence in terms of support if that's the case?

like, most current cloud streaming services are the windows pc version
no effort required on the part of the game dev

playstation now is i believe just running the ps3/ps4 code
no effort required on the part of the game dev

xcloud is definitely just a load of unsold xbones refitted for a server rack
no effort required on the part of the game dev

google stadia - connection strength

also watched the DF video earlier

"we tested this on a Google Internet connection and input lag was on par with Xbone X"

"Google also lets devs test with a 'low bandwidth' 15Mbps mode - we tried this and the lag increased and the resolution dropped to the point where the UI was unreadable "

15Mbps is your low bandwidth target?? and you didn't think at all about how resolution drops and tiny modern game UIs wouldn't mix?

google stadia - battery life

OK, so maybe you've jumped through every other hurdle

you live right next door to a Google data centre, you have uncapped Internet, etc. and you're about to settle in for a nice long session of playing something in 4K

30 mins later, the battery runs out, even though you only charged the controller last night

because depending on your config, the controller is actually responsible for not just sending inputs, but streaming the video from the server to a chromecast

re: google stadia - battery life

@Dex this whole thing is such a fucking joke I'm honestly in awe
