had a problem with melodyne yesterday and read through a forum thread about the same thing and I gotta say: fuck pretentious music purists!

not a single thread I saw didn't end up being a "omg you shouldn't use pitch correction!!! it's not real art!!!!" bullshit discussion

It literally does not matter what kinda music you make and how you do it; You. Are. Not. EVER. Better. Than. Anyone. Else.

the simplest 1-4-5-1 pop song someone bangs out on their shitty Casio keyboard is just as valuable as your hyper complex 27 person jazz ensemble.

you don't have to *like* it and there's nothing wrong with that but don't be fucking elitist about it.

why not take it further? multi tracking is arguably an even bigger crutch than every piece of pitch or time correction software out there. hell, so is digital recording in general. Go back to recording bands with a single microphone and a tape machine if you wanna be a purist

I'm just angry because this is a problem in general.

People claiming that people who draw digitally aren't real artists because they can hit ctrl-z, people claiming people who don't wanna bother with (or just straight up can't afford) film photography are fake because they can rely on automatic camera settings, etc.

Instead of being excited about the possibilities those "new" things can offer to artists, people gotta shit on them instead.

@tom *god, yes*

like frankly the only thing that matters in music or really any form of art is whether or not you managed to express the ideas you wanted to express; how you do that exactly is entirely up to you, and even if it's imperfect in that regard it may still have value to people it didn't have to you, the creator
