Totally digital coloring would've opened up a lot of new possibilities for obvious reasons, but I also recognize a lot of what we now call the Y2K aesthetic in the overall color palettes of these two frames here (similar dynamics - muted tones leaning towards a particular hue, combined with flashes of bright and often sharply contrasting colors) - I'm sure it and late '90s/early '00s anime influenced each other a bunch in that regard.
