"Techbro" definition

Can someone define the word "techbro" for me? UD says this:

"a guy who works in the tech field, often but not always lacking in social skills, sometimes focused on career to the exclusion of female companions"

But somehow I'm getting the impression that this is not necessarily what the term means in common Fedi parlance.

Help?

"Techbro" definition

@faoluin At least over here, I tend to see it used for reply guys (i.e. primarily men who frequently chime in with unwanted opinions on strangers' posts, often regardless of relative expertise or relevance) who otherwise fit that definition.

"Techbro" definition

@Thaminga Hmm. My issue is that this basically describes me, except that I wouldn't say I'm really focused my career to the exclusion of a partner (granted, I am partner-less at the moment).

I also try my best to not reply with condescending or abrasive responses, although I will post unsolicted at folks occasionally because I think it's healthy to venture outside my little social bubble and talk to strangers from time to time. :3

"Techbro" definition

@Thaminga Basically, I'm wondering if people here just use "techbro" for "assholes who also have technial knowledge". Not all tech people are assholes, and not all assholes are tech people, so I guess a distinction has to be made somewhere.

re: "Techbro" definition

@faoluin Yeah, it's very much shorthand for "assholes with technical knowledge".
