MINECRAFT taught me that THE MOON is always in the OPPOSITE place in the sky from the SUN and that it RISES & SETS at the same TIME & PLACE every night and I don't know how to INTERNALIZE that this is COMPLETELY NOT TRUE

Seriously literally every time I try to figure out where the moon is I have this moment where I absolutely cannot believe it's in a different place from where it was the night before. And since I've been trying to plan some more moon + stars related landscape photos I've been looking at where it is every night and it's absolutely fucked up how different it is some nights. Like yesterday it didn't rise until like 3AM

@masklayer Yup. "The moon is on the opposite side of the sun" literally only applies on a full moon, and that's it.

How long it's up and at what time it rises and sets depends on both the current season and phase - in general you can see a waxing moon in the afternoon and the evening, a full moon at night and a waning moon late at night and in the morning; the closer to new it is the longer it'll be up during the summer and the shorter during the winter, and vice versa the closer it is to full.

@Thaminga OH Ok, it makes a lot more sense that I would think that if it is opposite the sun when it's biggest though
