@irisjaycomics i see the madness has fully set in
@kd@yiff.life Seriously. I didn't have a real smartphone until I was nearly 21 and I wasn't even *that* late of an adopter. Only got a home internet connection when I was 10, and I still remember the internet in general like, becoming an actual presence in my life before that where it previously wasn't (with a distinct sense of "holy shit, we're in the future" to like, six-year-old me).
Things have changed so much in this short of a span of time that I feel old as hell at 27.
@kd@yiff.life For real, even within our own generation ('81 - '96) it's like... depending on at what point in time you were born you may have had a peek on Usenet prior to Eternal September when you were like way young on dad's computer or whatever, or you're too young to remember anything from before the internet became an increasingly massive influence on all of our lives starting in like, the late '90s.

@joshua Uranus actually looks a lot like a slightly more greenish and much cloudier version of Neptune - the "basically a featureless teal sphere" look was caused by the fact Voyager 2's cameras had absolutely shit sensitivity in the red band.
Compare a more recent image by Hubble.
re: local politics rant
@Leucrotta honestly I don't fucking trust anyone who makes a big stink about unemployment/etc fraud
like even if they genuinely don't meet the requirements or whatever chances are they still need that money a lot more than oh I don't know, big corporations that the right is more than happy to throw millions of times the money at at the drop of a goddamn hat, no questions asked
@dzuk The best part is it's all gonna look dated in a decade anyway.
ADHD PSA
@certifiedperson Yeah; from my personal experience at least, doing "a little every day" just means an additional thing to stress myself about every day. Not worrying about that at all save for one designated day in the week has made my life a *lot* easier, as has... pretty much dispensing with hard schedules entirely except where necessary.
Can't stress out and end up in choice paralysis over deadlines if you don't set any.
currently enjoying the 90-second-long period of time that occurs only twice per year, where the sun shines at exactly the correct angle to go through the front window of our flat, through the living room, into the hallway, down the small set of stairs that goes to the back, and into the kitchen, where it lands exactly in the 20cm wide gap between counter units next to the sink (which is impossible to clean behind) and illuminates, with glorious intensity, a plastic hose and 1 piece of dry pasta
re: thoughts about structure more generally
@Ratttz Mhmm. The familiarity serves to root it in something people will recognize, render it not totally alien to them - what you do with the rest is all up to you. Perhaps you take a staid progression but substitute a chord with something spicier, perhaps you fuck with the rhythm, perhaps you play a weird scale over it all for flavor's sake, perhaps you just get creative with the melody and improvise a whole bunch - there are *so* many different directions you can take things to keep things interesting without alienating your audience outright.
re: thoughts about structure more generally
@Ratttz Oh yeah. As much as I like to dig into esoteric shit it's one of the reasons I do have a soft spot for the usual trappings of pop music - verse/chorus/verse structures, the old I-V-vi-IV progression and its variations, etc etc. Hackneyed as they may be, the magic is in their accessibility and the fact it's incredibly easy to improvise over them and make them your own.
