@trysdyn To be fair, all of these things absolutely do ruin user experience, so...
@starkatt I'd heard about it back in high school, but seeing it explained to me now still has me going like... what the fuck.
re: religion 🇺🇸
@finnylion@snouts.online The more sensible Christians have been getting increasingly embarrassed by their Evangelical counterparts and decided to just drop their religion entirely, I feel.
Over here (🇳🇱) "no religion" has been the largest religious affiliation hands down since the '80s or so (and is very close to becoming the absolute majority here), and yeeeaaaah that's both the same dynamic that's encouraged that change, and continues to fuel it to this day to the point where I wouldn't be surprised if Islam ends up being the #1 religion here at some point in the future in spite of not actually growing much at all, just because the vast majority of would-be Christians stopped doing the whole religion thing altogether.
Then again, I suppose all this is the logical conclusion of several centuries of Christianity putting on as shitty of a face as it can muster, and expecting to keep people in through pure fear of eternal damnation alone.
re: anger and bad socialization
@kobi_lacroix It depends on context. Sometimes it's absolutely the right way to go because people and the culture they live in absolutely *suck*, but it's also important to remain open to the idea that you've fucked up and act accordingly.
At the end of the day, probably the best question to ask yourself is "is the action I'm about to take likely to accomplish what I want it to?", and look at the big picture before trying to answer it. Cutting someone off means you won't be there to help them grow, sure, but it also means not wasting energy on someone who possibly doesn't even *want* to in favor of investing yourself in people more open to change, and doing so more effectively than before. Keep people who want to fuck you up the hell out of your life, embrace folks who genuinely want to do better and help them do so, essentially.

Humans, in one form or another, have been on Earth for maybe 2.5 million years. The Andromeda galaxy is 2.5 million light years away.
Under dark, clear skies, you can see the Andromeda galaxy with your own two eyes. If you do, you’ll be looking at light which has been travelling through space for roughly as long as our genus has existed on this planet.
@dzuk 2014 me: oh no, Microsoft is buying Minecraft now? they're gonna ruin it aren't they

@starkatt The cube is itself drawn to be visually ambiguous, except the cube is simply a collection of 2D lines that happen to form a cube in our mind, except the lines themselves too are constructs of how we understand them and the tattoo is simply ink injected into the skin in a particular formation.
... except "skin" and "ink" too are concepts that we made up regardless of how well-differentiated they are, & everything's just energy interacting with the laws of physics at the end of the day.
