It was quite an experience.
I never had the leg pain. It started in my shoulder and a little bit of the chest area, and then radiating down into my arm. Felt kinda like an injured shoulder but worse, and then the chest pain grew worse. I went to the hospital and was put on heparin and warfarin and I remain on Warfarin to this day, 8 years later, because still on HRT and my doctor didn't want to risk it again.
It hurt a lot at the time. Would not recommend.

It's scary. I had some little clots and they hurt a lot. My wife, because of chemo, had bigger clots and they gave her extreme pain and killed small areas of her lungs.
The risk is if the clot moves to a vessel that supports your heart muscle. If those get blocked, your heart could stop and you could die very quickly.
Warfarin is cheap but requires monthly testing. Newer drugs work better but are expensive.
Best advice... get checked if concerned or pain gets bad.
