@silverspookgames@octodon.social I remember hearing that the US had towns like this in the 1800s, owned and operated entirely by a company. The employees were all paid in a currency unique to the town, and that town was the only place where it could be used. This left workers almost completely dependent on the company for all food and supplies, and they couldn't afford to move and work elsewhere because they didn't have real money. The practice was eventually outlawed.
