tumblr re: twitter, autism PSA

@packbat @Zauberin Thank you. That saves me from having to work out if OCRBot still exists.

re: tumblr re: twitter, autism PSA

@not_on_pizza @packbat What is OCRBot?

re: tumblr re: twitter, autism PSA

@Zauberin @packbat It was (is?) a fediverse bot that, when you mention it in a reply to an image, attempts to read the text from that image, and replies with that content.

Mastodon OCR tangent re: tumblr re: twitter, autism PSA

@Zauberin @not_on_pizza we do want to add, just because we think of it when OCRBot is brought up, that modern Mastodon has a built-in client-side OCR available? That's what "Detect text from image" does - it replaces the description with its best guess of the contents of the image, that the poster can then edit and save.

(Mentioning because we still see a lot of people relying on OCRBot for images they post and we wonder if they know.)

@Zauberin @not_on_pizza (...and, of course, now we look and see the full text of the image is in the description, so, apologies.)

re: Mastodon OCR tangent re: tumblr re: twitter, autism PSA

@packbat @Zauberin _I_ hadn't noticed thatm oops.

Mastodon OCR tangent re: tumblr re: twitter, autism PSA

@packbat @Zauberin I'm not seeing how to do that in the web interface...

Mastodon OCR tangent re: tumblr re: twitter, autism PSA

@not_on_pizza It should be a regular link directly under the text box.

Mastodon OCR tangent re: tumblr re: twitter, autism PSA

@packbat Oh, when posting!

re: Mastodon OCR tangent re: tumblr re: twitter, autism PSA

@not_on_pizza Yeah! Sorry, it doesn't do any after-the-fact OCR, it's there for posters working from screenshots.
