You ever hear a specific kind of sound, like, musical, that invokes a strange, emotional response? Like crying?

I’m listening to an audio drama podcast and there’s a part with a music box playing that got me nearly upset to the point of fast forwarding the section of it.

Is this like, a thing with other people? I’ve had this reaction to music boxes and musical things similar to this for as long as I can remember. I dunno why, it’s not fight or flight but just…makes me want to cry.

and I want to add to this: I’ve never seen anybody else that I happen to be in person with seem to have this reaction like me, which sort of baffles me even more.

@RussellTheFox Basically a psychiatric condition in which certain noises trigger a negative/unwanted emotional response: webmd.com/mental-health/what-i

@Zauberin @RussellTheFox think it's more just that certain keys of notes generate certain emotions pretty universally, in specific cultures if not globally

there's a reason people usually don't try to write cheery songs in minor keys, for example

@kat @Zauberin like, it’s not the specific notes but just that sound a music box makes entirely, every note, any song.

@RussellTheFox @Zauberin what i mean is like i don't think it's a misophonia thing as much as some people just have really strong reactions to particular types of music keys or instruments or whatever and it's basically just a particularly intense instance of "this sound make u sad" for that person, i think
