Littlest Hobo was in my opinion the alchemical distillation of the concept ( also PUPPY)

Basically you have a gimmick but the core story relies on emotional catharsis and not inherently on "stopping bad guys" like macgyver, criminal minds, etc.

Theres times I miss a certain genre of tv popular in the 70s to 90s I like to call the "Helpies" some character or group of characters nomadically travel around to places and help folks with small scale emotional or rescue problems. See: Hulk, Littles Hobo, Touched by an Angel, and I guess Quantum Leap
