This screenshot (courtesy of @FlatFootFox) is from The Verge’s liveblog of Monday’s Apple WWDC keynote. The keynote starts with Tim Cook at the Apple Park rainbow arch — something that is featured in almost every one of Apple’s prerecorded keynote videos.

First of all: it’s just a fucking rainbow. There was no explicit comment about LGBT rights. But okay, let’s assume it was implied.

Saying it’s a “political statement” downplays its importance, and how it affects the lives of so many people — people who just want to love another consenting adult of their choice. Or feel comfortable in their own body.

This isn’t a debate over taxes or whether the filibuster should be abolished. Stop framing it that way.

It’s basic human rights, and anyone upset or against it is being hateful and discriminatory. Not “political”.

Today’s hilarious example of misplaced national pride is inhabitants of Antananarivo who feel offended by the fact that the city didn’t even break into the top 20 listing of… *checks notes* … cities with the world’s worst air pollution.
