What i would ideally like is to have one website where I put all my content but then the different content types feed to personal/work domains.

I don’t want to decide for people what they should see, if that makes sense.

@atomicbutterfly

I want something similar. I have for a very long time.

I wish people could subscribe to topics I post on (if they don't want to subscribe to everything I post).

@atomicbutterfly

For example — the software engineers that have followed me in different places (especially the ones earlier in their careers) are usually not interest in my posts on human behavior, or population genetics, or mythology, or vintage sci-fi, or egyptology, or scratch-building, etc etc etc. Most of these software engineers just seem interested in my posts on hardcore software engineering.

@atomicbutterfly

Also, for example — similar with the human-behavioral science researches who follow me in different places. Most seem only interested human behavior, and maybe population genetics. But usually not all the other stuff.

Etc.

@atomicbutterfly

Although Mastodon doesn't (currently) support it, based on my current understanding of the low-level technologies that the Mastodon and the rest of the Fediverse runs on, I think you could get the Fediverse to support subscribing to a person's posts on a topic (rather than just everything someone posts).

I.e., I think the Fediverse COULD support letting followers subscribe to specific topics from a person.

@atomicbutterfly

Although there would be some user-experience (UX) stuff to work out.

(I need go deeper into the low-level Fediverse technologies to see if those UX issues can be resolved well, without all the existing Fediverse software having to change.)

@reiver I know hosted Wordpress does have subscribe by category plugins. Or you can just subscribe to category rss if you’re that way inclined.

@reiver I think expression engine might be our thing. It looks like categories can be split across several sites expressionengine.com/features
