Please, if you are not a person of African descent, reconsider creating 1st-level toots using the #BlackTwitter #BlackMastodon #BlackFedi or #BlackFediverse, etc, hashtags. In this moment of flux, a lot of Black folks are trying to find each other via these hashtags. It might be more considerate to use #BlackTwitterAllies and other such hashtags to show support for Black communities without co-opting them.

Thanks to a lazy press, too many people think Mastodon IS the Fediverse. It's just one microblogging software program running on independently owned servers that all support The ActivityPub Protocol.

TAPP is the tech allowing message federation between about 8 software programs that support it (including Mastodon). If you're using any of those programs, you're surfing the Fediverse via the TAPP network You're tapped-in.

TAPP may soon compete with BlueSky & other protocols.

People complain about needless content warnings, but it can be such a fun experience too. It's like getting a little wrapped gift in your timeline that just says "doggo" and then you click to unwrap it and find out that it is, in fact, a very fine doggo.

One cool but maybe less-visible feature here: The "locked" setting of your account (whether followers need approval) is independent of the visibility setting for each post.

That means you can have a locked account but still make some posts public, and you can also have an unlocked account but make some posts only visible to your followers.
