Lazy toot: I'm considering the use of a Java-based app on my #linux machine. Is the antipathy toward Java mainly about it not being FOSS? Or is there more to it? Any search-terms I can Google or links I can chase to help me make a more informed decision?
I gather already that the maker strongly recommends Oracle Java for this than OpenJDK.
(This is a bibliographic ref mngr, so I'd really be investing time & energy for the long haul.)

birds, domesticity, boring
The American Goldfinches have rediscovered our front-yard feeder! Also, the Robins (after a two-year absence) are nesting again on our front-porch light fixture.
We're close enough to Main Street that traffic noise is pretty steady, so it's important to me that we've also got as much bird song as we can scare up. And anyway, the American Goldfinch is just _pretty_. #birding
