the video autoplay curse has spread to Google results and I’m glad they’re not my usual search engine or I’d never fucking accomplish anything now

like I don’t get it, how can anyone deploy auto playing video and not consider it an interruption, a distraction, an imposition upon any viewer’s workflow

I get why Google are doing it, because if they get someone to click that it goes to YouTube where they then show an ad for $

but just, please, if you’re going to even consider implementing auto play, maybe make it opt-in? prompt the first time you want to start playing a video? consider letting the user actually get to consent to being inundated in this way?

(honestly, now that there’s an auto-play video setting in the App Store of all things, I sort of wish Apple would make it a system-wide setting that apps were required to obey)

@cat does the reduce motion accessibility option disable it?

(it should definitely be a separate option but I'm wondering if they at least did *that*)

@iliana I’ve not tried that! I generally like the other UI animations, though
