Here's a weird bit of trivia: the idea that carrots are good for eyesight dates back to England in WWII. Allied propaganda distributed to Axis territories claimed that English pilots had extra carrots in their diet to improve their eyesight, thus improving their ability to see and intercept German/Axis fighter planes.
In reality, Allied pilots were better at intercepting Axis raids because the Allies developed radar first.
