saw the netflix fyre festival documentary last night and, whoooo heckin boyo, large feelings.

i can't find the article now but i recall a discussion of the major datatypes of the modern web being The Feed, and The List. it's become clear that these patterns, both in UI and beneath it, have considerable impact on social relations and the shapes of our communities. what would happen if we built social UIs on different notions?

how would you design a social UI that isn't based on The Feed?

@garbados what datatypes capture irl interpersonal communications? i mean the feed seems isomorphic to conversational prompts, and the list is a basic organizational type.

longer forms seem like they induce glosses of the two existing types.

Shit posting, which might be a type, is more like poetry.

A lot of what we're missing is non verbal.
