im not even joking. i wish adults had talked to me about fascism as a kid, but they all assumed it was dead and buried. when, begrudgingly, hesitantly, in a very small voice, they were ready to admit fascism was and had been for some time alive and well, the fash had already been organizing around them for decades. so when i met skinheads (yeah you bet pdx has plenty) i assumed they were just doing a bit. i had no frame of reference for what they sought, what they represented.

@garbados actually in high school we did a unit on the holocaust that included hitler's rise to power, but it was still pretty abstract
