Does anyone have some good examples of academic papers involving more efficient solutions to socially-relevant problems using either CPU vector instructions or GPGPU?
I'm working on a grant, and I'd love to be able to say something along the lines of "Foo et al. [1] used vector intrinsics to quadruple the throughput of their machine learning system to identify cancerous moles, while Bar and Baz [2] cut the power usage of their wind turbine design simulation by half with a GPGPU-based system".

@confusedcharlot I'm still trying to figure out how to incorporate cryptocurrency in the grant proposal -- I think it's one of the larger net social ills tech has produced in the past few years, and would prefer not to contribute to that massive waste of energy, so I'm certainly not going to cite it as a key motivation of my work, but I'll need to at least mention it somewhere as a possible use-case or look like I'm completely ignorant of modern tech trends...
