ive really enjoyed my time on mastodon. i met some cool people here and felt less alone than on other social media. why are we all being smugly cool about how much it sucks. that feels like it sucks itself
@LilyVers my experience isn't as uniformly positive, maybe? i also empathize with people who find navigating this environment challenging.
i can see some, especially older people trying to find a way out of twitter, who may get left behind because the the impedance mismatch too much.
i wonder when that will be me.
I think some of those “this place sucks” sentiments are done as a way to discourage folks from coming here and upsetting the culture and customs already established.

@confusedcharlot there is a difference between saying "Mastodon presents its own issues but I get something out of it" and "don't come here, this place sucks" and I expressly mean to discuss the latter
