So this Mauser 98 receiver has a trigger on it. After cleaning it up, fitting a barrel and a bolt, it turns out the position of the sear on the trigger doesn't allow you to engage the safety.
I know I sort of need to shut up about this but it's just so close to working. The safety lever can move when the cocking lever is out far enough: when the firearm is cocked and ready to fire.
But in this case the cocking piece is almost imperceptibly too far foward.
So it's not as sexy as an all original Mauser, but the barrel floats and the head space is dead on. Introducing the Sino-Spanish-Polish-Serbian(?) Mauser 98 short rifle https://awoo.space/media/q2bk7GJERF8DPySDfVw
Yes the sight is offset, and the bluing on the bolt is mismatched, but I got practice doing some hand fitting to compensate for mismatched parts, and it might even shoot decently
