it's 2021 but apparently some people are still out of the loop so

do not use the term "fren"

here's a good place to start on why

it's a nazi/alt-right dogwhistle and i don't wanna see it. do not use it in any context. don't just stop using it around me but continue using it around others. just don't use it at all. if you hear someone else say it tell them to stop too. if they refuse to stop even after you have informed them then that should be raising some serious red flags

i am going to be implementing a block on sight no questions asked policy going forward

So for those who don't know yet, Freenode had a hostile takeover and the volunteer staff has resigned. Most (if not all staff) have created a new network: libera.chat.

##yamahasynths has moved to libera.chat. There is heavy load, so things like registering or even connecting may take a while. Point your client to irc.libera.chat, port 6667 (6697 if using TLS).

There is a relay provided for now for both channels, so both the Libera and Freenode channels receive all msgs.

"Everyone knows exactly who you are."
"Okay, it's hard being understood."

Hey so! I'll be doing a streamed talk at DCG201 (DEFCON New Jersey local) this Friday, 7PM EST, as part of a program on VR tech: defcon201.medium.com/dcg-201-o

My talk's subject: LOVR.ORG (the open source VR library I use); nuts & bolts of VR dev, and how to get started; my game SKATEGIRL DESTROYS THE UNIVERSE (
@mermaidindustries ); and a look into SKATEGIRL'S internals.

The talk after me (7:30) is by Nevyn Bengtsson, talking about alloverse.com, another LOVR project.

Can I just say I hate the phrasing "Return to work" that's going in all of the messages about switching back to fully in-person / no longer remote work?
Like when did we leave work? What am I "return"ing from

i love lisp and programmed in common lisp for many years, and i still find this pretty funny.

though i would argue that most of the pain in lisp is caused by other lisp users.

"Kudos to Bram Cohen and team for inventing a form of Lisp that massively inconveniences anyone who needs to buy a hard drive in the next five years. This is a huge leap forward for Lisp, which for decades had only caused pain to the people who used it"
