This is cool as heck: the earliest trees were hollow, with water-bearing structures (called xylem) along the outside of the tree instead of in the core like in modern trees. As the tree grew, the xylem tore apart to make room for new growth and then the tree repaired the tears, and occasionally the whole tree collapsed to form a wider base for continued growth. ![]()

cross platform apps in 2017:
* use Qt, everything looks p much the same, it's Qt though, also licensing
* use GTK+3, it can even be somewhat nice, look is native-by-default, cross-platform is awkward
* use libui or equiv, always use native controls, can't do anything more complicated than the intersection of what controls {win32, cocoa, gtk+} provide
* use, eg, imgui + opengl. watch as your app sucks up CPU refreshing the screen. also, users' screenreaders can't do a fucking thing
