dividing up internet eras by method used to find material:
surfing: 1990 to 1993
directory-based search engines: 1994 to 1996
webcrawling search engines: 1997 to 2006
facebook: 2007 to now

what up, folks. how's your day going?

@Dex agreed, I liked the sudden jump cuts to some bizarre new slider result

finding more that I do tweets/twoots/fb status updates (no funny name for those) as performative parts of a character, like deliberately "here's a funny thing I just did/saw/thought".

I do still keep some non-performative stuff going on a private dead social network (and AD twitter) but public stuff is much more bon mot ish

I forgot to check in here for a while and it needs to regenerate your personal timeline and that feels weird, like it's gonna suddenly refresh and throw stuff at me like a can full of spring snakes

@ajr yes, if you post about more stuff than copyright issues

gimme some recommendations of people to follow on mastodon, please

@Mycroft not related! Just two things I like. Vore is a looooong-time thing since childhood and the udder is a thing I'm trying out just in the last little while.

@Mycroft I think "the audience" as a general vibe rather than particular people is a really underappreciated part of social networks, and a personal blog now is gonna feel like a way different audience then in 2005

CW: but I don't know how to tag this

@thefishcrow I see 'birdsite' as the usual content warning tag for twitter talk

I am about to go freelance/job hunting again so I feel like I can't delete my main account, but it hasn't been 'me' for quite awhile now.
