Here's my case:

  • Being loose is outside the "norm" of sexuality, by most people's definitions; it is definitely not the default
  • There is nothing wrong with it whatsoever, it's how some people are born
  • People stigmatise being loose, especially women, and especially trans folk who get treated constantly as if this is a moral failing they all share (which it isn't, not all trans people are horny, and the ones who are don't deserve stigma)
  • It is not the same as being poly, at all
  • Like ace/aro people, people with higher than normal sex drives or romantic attraction face high stigma, even in queer communities; I would argue more so, because society in general considers being loose a moral failing
  • Slut shaming is an evil of society that needs more attention drawn to it
  • People are allowed to be proud of who they are. If that means being proud of being a slut, so be it.

fundraising, help four trans roommates get a place to live

So like @amic has one going so I will have one too for visibility.

@amic, @plausocks, @alayna, and I live in a hotel that's like... it costs just enough for me to afford on our collective incomes, and barely any less.

We got a little bit of money from family and friends and have almost enough to get out of here... if we don't eat.

If you could help us, we would appreciate it so much.

After we're out of here, we will pay it forward. We want to so bad. We just can't. This place is a money pit.

I feel like shit for begging more. Like really shitty.

If you gave to Alexandria, no need to give again. It goes to the same source.

politics, propsperity doctrine, 45

So I decided to explain to someone why on Earth Christians in America hate the poor so much. The short answer is: no, it's not just you, they really do hate the poor. And it's woven into the fabric of American Evangelism. I have simplified things a great deal of course (and it's only this long because I've not had time to make it shorter), but this is is the jist of it.

American politics are so fucked and interwoven with religion, you need a treatise to unpack it.

fun fact: peppermint and spearmint teas reduce testosterone levels! enough so that one study tested and recommended 2 cups of it a day as an alternative to spironolactone for women with PCOS!

some lightly salted thoughts on christmas in our culture

in my opinion, the default winter season narrative of our culture -- Christmas -- is kind of a difficult one for large swaths of American culture to find broader meaning in.

As a secularized society, now there's not really anything there in terms of spiritual significance. There sure is a lot of stuff about consumption of goods though. Some people might feel connected to particular family traditions, which is great. But it lacks broader cultural meaning in terms of connection with the land, with our human experiences as a whole, and especially to any experiences of the sacred.

And, I think, folks know it.

what's weird about the cthulhu mythos is that the concept of an utterly alien entity or horror we are fundamentally incapable of understanding -- it may be an intelligent agent, even an intelligent moral agent, but without "intelligence", "morality", or "agency" as we know them -- is a really interesting idea that's relevant to a lot of domains, particularly when trying to think outside The Box in a strong sense.

but the actual unknowably alien entity and horror lovecraft was writing about was "people who aren't white", "white people who don't think it's important to be racist", and "biracial marriage". like, to lovecraft, white people voting for obama would have been exactly humans worshipping cthulhu.

autists be literally biologically hardwired to prefer anime

  • cartoon faces less stressful to look at than 3D ones
  • subtitles easier to read than picking speech out of noise (subs v. dubs proxy debate on whether anime club has more auditory processing d/o vs. dyslexia.)
  • highly stylized (if not necessarily shallow) character archetypes allow easier understanding of character motivations, transferable from series to series.
  • japanese customs no less alien than the weird shit irl people expect you to magically know
  • ayanami rei
