decades of accelerating conversion of stored energy into financial instruments, and no practical application

About the nicest thing I can say about Star Trek: Picard is it's led me to appreciate Enterprise by comparison.

@troodon also my cats are smarter than me when it comes to finding cooler spots. My bedroom is a few degrees cooler than my living room. Really I should be lying in bed and playing Switch which also uses less power (and therefore generates less heat) than doing it in my living room on my big expensive home theater system. Plus I’d have cats.

@troodon also when I went to buy ice I purposefully took my time just so I could spend more time in my air conditioned car.

@troodon yesterday was bad, today is awful. I topped off my makeshift AC (cooler full of ice with a fan blowing across it) and it melted in an hour and my room was still 90°

I’d stream my nothing-better-to-do Picross except turning on my streaming computer would raise the temperature of my living room by a few degrees.

turns out my cats are smarter than me, my bedroom is about 4° cooler than the living room

I gave Werner a little bowl full of ice and he's very much appreciating it.

it's 89°F indoors, which sure beats the 99°F outside right now, or the 110°F I measured earlier today

oh also I've kept my non-North-facing blackout shades closed all day, which helps. I can't imagine how hot it'd be in here if my gigantic South-facing living room window had been letting in light all this time.

wow my ice is already mostly melted ugh

also for the last month I'd been collecting bids on getting a heat pump installed in my home and I really hope that I can get it actually done soon, even though the heat wave will hopefully be long gone by the time I can make it happen. I'll definitely need to be prepared for the next one.

I also hope that having already gotten bids gets me early in line, because I'm sure there's going to be a HUGE rush for installers soon.

So I bought 5 bags of ice and put it into a cooler, and then blew my box fan across it... and then the box fan decided today, of all days, to burn out.

But fortunately I found another (much smaller) fan which is working well enough, so I have a small livable spot where I can hang out and, like, not die.

Also it was "cool" and "fun" to see that the outside temperature gauge on my car does have three digits on it after all.

I bought a new refrigerator, and the first delivery attempt failed, and it had to get redelivered today. So I don't have any ice at home. So I went out searching for more ice.

The convenience store across the street: all out. QFC: had some but they were having a power outage and weren't letting people open the freezers. Safeway: doesn't carry it at all.

So I tried Saar's Discount Grocery, and I lucked out as I got there just as they got a new delivery of ice.

re: food

@matt actually come to think of it I"d probably recommend the immersion blender before the Magic Bullet, since you could use that to make shakes and it's also great for a lot of things that the Magic Bullet can't do.

re: food

@matt FWIW I have a full-size blender and I never use it since the Magic Bullet is usually enough. And I use an immersion blender for everything else.

re: food

@matt I mean it's a cheap, underpowered blender.

I suppose you could use one of those wand-style milk frothers/blenders if you want something that's ONLY good for making meal replacement shakes but like, why?

re: food

@matt I am a fan of my Magic Bullet blender for stuff like that. I mostly use it to make breakfast smoothies but it'd work really well for meal replacement shakes too.
