The most frustrating thing about building software is the feeling that I'm building sand castles that will eventually get wiped away. It takes a staggering amount of effort *just to keep software running exactly the same as before*. Not to add improvements! Not to fix bugs! Just to keep it working exactly the same as it once did. It's maddening if you want to have a sense of personal pride at something you built years ago. Your "legacy" is nonexistent, unless you stay on the treadmill.

unpopular opinion: i think those wonky robo dogs with their funny spindly legs are adorable.

Part of becoming a more senior software developer is learning to accept the work of those more junior than me.
Could I have done a better job faster? Probably. Do I have time and motivation to actually do my work, his work, her work, and that work over there? No.

Werner, on the other hand, did way better, and he even enjoyed being introduced to one of my neighbors and didn't freak out at all! He's gotten really mellow in his old age.
