weird food craving

suddenly I'm craving fried chicken. I imagine it's probably possible to make gluten-free, and I could possibly make it at home with what I have on hand... but it'd be... challenging. and I don't want to *make* fried chicken, I want to *eat* fried chicken. :( /hasamildsad

@green could do maybe a corn meal and rice flour mix for the breading

@green I’ve done it while I was doing a keto thing before! the magical trick ingredient for breading: pork rinds, smashed in bits.

@green I've made fried chicken with ground-up pork rinds before, and it was WAY better than it sounds. And I normally HATE pork rinds.

I'm pretty sure they're gluten free.

@fidgety @leafnoodle pork rinds... huh. I don't think I've ever actually had those. well, now I have a good reason to go looking! XD there's a simple recipe in my paleo kid's cookbook, I suspect I can use that and add the pork rinds. tomorrow I'll be going to stores to look for stuff, so I will keep an eye open for them! thanks for the tip! :)

@green @leafnoodle Oh, Paleo! I was on keto, so that's where the recipe was from.

Also, I highly suggest substituting ground pork rinds for breadcrumbs when making burgers. It adds a subtle, smokey taste.

@fidgety @leafnoodle ooooh... I will try that. seems like pork rinds are a go-to substitute for breadcrumbs generally. I'll have to experiment with this! :D

@DialMforMara @green my sarcasm detector is failing, but if that was serious: it's fried pork skin. turns all airy and crispy, they sell bags of 'em with potato chips and other junk food.

@leafnoodle
@green
Yes and no to sarcasm. Yes in the phrasing, no in that I was raised in a kosher household and don't entirely understand pork culture.

I just woke up, so that might not make sense.

@DialMforMara I'm not 100% sure. The skin, maybe? Dried and fried to a crisp?

Personally, I find them disgusting to eat on their own. But I can't deny that, when ground into something resembling breadcrumbs, they're great for cooking.
