It must be great to get so inspired.

I was wondering why I didn't remember NFL players standing for the United States anthem when I was a kid. Turns out, they didn't start doing that until after 2009 - and their league was being paid for it by the DOD.

So, y'know. Fuck everything I guess.
TFW someone wants to know how your day is going and you're not sure how to answer https://mastodon.social/media/OdqhDiQXZEm9SraugGw
"I don't believe technology can solve social problems"
yeah, see, okay
look
honestly I don't think "social problems" can be solved, per the There's Always Assholes theorem
BUT
you know how if your faucet breaks there's water spewing everywhere
standing in the middle of a social media disaster and going "tech can't solve this" is like standing in that person's kitchen and going "plumbing can't solve this"
it is not as helpful as finding the shutoff valve
or building a BETTER FAUCET
How I sorta learned not to click through CW's when I won't like what's inside and have nothing good to say
1) Learn to recognise the things you know you won't like
2) Looking carefully at the CW and think about if this is something I won't like
3) Be mindful, think very carefully, remind yourself, "is it really worth seeing what's inside vs how grossed out/angry/sad/upset/blah I'm gonna feel after it?"
4) Remember if you don't like it but they do, you probably don't have anything to add
discourse (brosplaining)
@zangetsu_MG@mastodon.technology
and bro, don't @ me unless and until you read and comprehend @noelle 's posts on the subject. it's on your shoulders to prove you're worth talking to, bro.
discourse
@zangetsu_MG@mastodon.technology
look, bro. can I call you bro? I'm pretty sure I can call you bro.
@noelle wrote FOUR POSTS explaining EXACTLY WHAT THE POINT WAS. clearly, without sarcasm, name-calling, or condescension. and you COMPLETELY IGNORED THEM in favor of picking at a post you didn't like. this is why we say that you gamergate-bros aren't worth arguing with; because you don't engage in good faith, you don't listen to anything you can't immediately mock, and you don't learn a damn thing, ever.
me putting Cheerios on the porch railing has sparked a bit of territorial squabbling among the crows. three of them (I think siblings, two from an older batch and one that's still young enough to gape/flutter-beg) have been mostly seen on the porch in the last few days, but now there's a fourth big one that's making a *lot* of noise. I'm not sure if Noisy Newcomer is trying to drive off the Terrible Three, or join them, or become the leader or what.
Hacking the Holocaust
'Remember as you say punch nazis, WWII resistance heroes also smuggled and hid refugees, deleted refugee data, lied to cops, broke the law.'
'As fast as IBM used computers to update census data to round up Jews, ordinary people manipulated, deleted data, forged docs to save lives.'
'Remember this, engineers: you don't have to break the law, but giving users control of their data can help them save lives when they must.'
I've started actually reading this comic http://www.valsalia.com/comic/prologue/01/ and now I am *seeing yinglets everywhere* (which is not a bad thing but it's kind of strange)
like y'know how if you go swimming for a long time you start seeing wave patterns everywhere or is that just me
or snow
yeeeeeeeeeee
(yinglets are FREAKISHLY ADORABLE it's triggering all my Terran instincts omg you guys I can't eeeeee)
