also, the porch just got visited by a Steller's jay (not seen in my neighborhood very much) and a flicker, who sat on the suet feeder pole trying to figure out how to get to the suet. it didn't manage to crack the problem, and flew off in a huff instead. must be a newcomer--I've seen a couple of flickers successfully dining at the suet cage before.
I opened the porch door to toss some birdseed out, and Nar managed to get past me and out onto the porch, but instead of, I don't know, exploring to try and find a way off the porch, he just stood there, sniffed the ground, and HOWLED until I picked him up. XD like his brain shorted out from being ACTUALLY OUTSIDE. "I'm gonna go out! oh hey I'm out! there's smells and I CAN'T HANDLE THIS AAAAAA MOM HELP ME oh you're picking me up and taking me back inside *prrrrprrrrrrprrrrr*"
well, either a redtail or a Cooper's hawk; either is unlikely for this time of year, but nothing else fits the profile. huh!
finally can sort of see what the crows are mobbing, from a distance and through a bunch of trees. it's bigger than the crows, but not a lot, so probably not an eagle; predominant colors are brown and red, so I'm guessing a redtail hawk. aaand I would probably be wrong; this is the wrong area for them at this time of year. hmm...
My grandparents decided to learn Welsh when they were 65. After two years of lessons in it (and talking Welsh with me at home, I was going to a Welsh school and was already fluent), they were fluent. My grandmother, around the same time, decided to overcome her phobia of water and had me teach her how to swim. She'd swim laps with me in the pool up into her 80s.
You're not too old and it's not too late to try something new.
