We made a laser pistol as a legitimate part of work.
It is a UV laser and we are using it to touch up cracks and other problems with the things we make with the resin printer.
I think that it is impossible to use it without going 'PEW PEW!!'.
On our walk today javert was making faces at me.
Also I finally saw one of the neighbor kittens, they will come into the courtyard but they run away as soon as they hear anyone so I only ever saw tails running away before.
My laser cutter can scale things, so I am playing with that.
And you know, testing to make sure that cuts are repeatable and everything.
I used the laser cutter. It took a long time but then I realised that I hadn't cleaned the lens, so it should hopefully take much less time in the future.
For scale, the pieces of wood it is cut out of is 3mm think and A4 sized.

The laser cutter I designed and built works!
So so very excited about this.

This is the first thing we have successfully cut on the laser cutter after getting all the components together.
It cut though 3mm MDF in 10 passes with a 5.5w laser. So it was able to retrace its path 10 times with no noticeable deviation, and we returned it to the initial position every 2 passes to give the laser some time to cool off because it is cheap.
We bought the z-axis movement, the x axis is a camera rail Ben had, everything else we sourced and bought from hardware stores. #Engineering
This is the current state of our laser cutter/engraver. As long as it works it will have a cutting area of about 50cmx50cm.
At the moment it has some bits held on with clamps and we still need to make a better system for tensioning the belt for moving the x axis, but it works, at least in that it moves on three axes and moves consistently as far as we can tell without putting the laser on it and trying to repeat a complex cut a bunch of times.
it isn't bright enough in here to get a good picture, but Gym Shoes has been sitting like this for about 5 minutes. She keeps coming back so I assume that she like it.
