Complaining

@ekaitz_zarraga i will remember that. Perhaps I should stick to the south. I liked malaga

People not taking care of pets

Damn it, the same people who gave us Carrie and Fischer just left the list kitten in the courtyard when they left.

And it is chilly and wet outside.
And the kitten started following me around in the courtyard when I was outside just now.

We are barely prepared for two kittens and Javert, I don't think we can do a third one.

Fuck. Anyone in Ile-de-france or Asine who wants a cute kitten?

how the fuck do you just abandon a pet like that?

re: Distributed tech collective

I think perhaps the hardest part of this is going to be finding the initial sources of funding.

I suspect that many of the people who would be interested in something like this aren't in very stable financial situations.
I think that asking for volunteers to help set everything up and to act as the first members is the only way to go, but there has to be very explicit rules in place so everyone understands the expectations, this isn't going to be any good if we have to exploit people to make it work.

US Politics, Liberal s Progressive

@kavbojka in the US the two terms are splitting. liberal is the main Democratic Party, which has decided that neoliberal fascism is ok as long as gay people are allowed in and the racism is slightly less overt than the current US administration, but anything better than that is too much.

Progressives are generally for things like defunding police, abolishing student debt, nationalised healthcare, decriminalising drug addiction and making rich people actually pay taxes, which the liberals, or at least the ones represented by the Democratic Party, generally consider dangerously radical ideas.

Things are changing quickly, but that is the general split.

re: local news

@jk but it sounds like weed is what he needs to calm down.

I managed to solder the wires onto a tiny surface mount microphone.

The microphone is 4mm x 2mm and has 6 pads on it. I soldered a 24 gauge wire to each one.

I haven't tested to see if it works yet, but I feel accomplished.

The mic in question is digikey.com/product-detail/en/

Clients

So the client just came up with a great idea:

Do exactly what we did a year ago and gave as the first demo of what we are working on and said that he should continue with this.

@ekaitz_zarraga because for the past 20 years I have wanted to make a swarm of semi-autonomous robots.

But my excuse is going to be home automation that is robust against failures and for research into distributed sensor networks. One of the big applications is monitoring fields for farmers.

@ekaitz_zarraga I am going to use them to actually make my local mesh network

@ekaitz_zarraga I am using NRF24L01+ modules, we are buying them for my brother in the US, but I am sure they are available here.

I haven't had a chance to actually test their range, but even if they only get 200m that is huge.

These little wireless modules I want to use for my mesh network cost barely more than 1 euro and have a max range of 800m.

Technology is weird.

It really feels like apple dropped the ball with swift.

A big part of that is the documentation which seems to be half outdated and half things that don't work.

Grumble

I was told "I am using private GitHub repos to make a privacy first cross platform application"

I have some bad news...

Todays task: Improve the stability of my software that connects to my custom USB HID thingy.

Google faking privacy, again

Google has graciously decided that it will delete some of it tracking data after 18 months*!

* On new accounts, and only the raw data that it stores, none of the models or analysis of this data. It also make no mention how 18 month old tracking information having almost no value to them because it has already been sold and incorporated into any models they are using the data for.
You can turn this on for existing accounts, and this isn't a new thing they offer. The big thing here they are trying to push is that somehow changing the default time for when the data gets deleted is a big win for privacy.

So perhaps that first line should be:

Google decides to save money by clearing out some old archives it can no longer exploit and trying to claim it is charity.

Complaining about clients

The client is clueless. Like, beyond clueless to the point of aggressively fighting the idea that having a clue is possible.

This is to the point where I don't think that meaningful progress is possible.

So despite me getting paid partially in equity for this project I am treating it as dead, if the client wants more work they can pay or buy out my stake in it, otherwise it is just dead

Some of the linguistic analysis stuff could be interesting, but I don't really care
