Here, at the end of Twitter, I find myself…grateful. I don’t think we used this site properly at all, but honestly?? This was an amazing place to be. I loved live-tweeting the Super Bowl and the Oscars. Loved watching people respond to culture touchstones in real time.

I met so many amazing people here. I was able to keep in touch with so many more. I found a community I never thought I would here — black geeks and furries who had experiences and reference points like mine. And I got to learn about the intimate experiences of so, so many.

Twitter is how I learned about the privileges I have, and where I rediscovered a sense of social responsibility. I learned about my blind spots, and how to be empathetic to those who hadn’t discovered theirs yet. I learned the value of crafting rhetoric here.

Twitter made me a more anxious, insecure, thoughtful, engaged, curious, and better person.

I will miss it when it goes. But I’m happy that this ruined the completely fabricated reputation of the avatar of the worst traits of late capitalism in the process.
