So I got laid off this morning. In hindsight, the signs were there, etc...
Honestly? I probably was getting a little too comfortable. I knew that at my age, you hired for my experience -- which at this point is all centered around soft skills. My resume is straight up trash LOLOLOL A BLOO BLOO BLOO 😢
The severance was decent and I'll really miss my job. I felt like I was just getting into the hang of it. And I'll really miss the people I work with. And I'll be OK. Change happens.
@jakebe “HEY!” (Again from 10 minutes ago at the coffee shop.)
Let’s just cash out our savings, rent the old Citti florist building on Scott and open our own strongly furry-themed game and hobby shop.
Teasel can sell proxies, Joey will teach painting and terrain making, you’ll hold ttrpg classes for kids, and I’ll be the a-hole with cards.
@jakebe *sends hugs anyway* yeah you'll be okay but sorry for the disruption in your life *pets again*
@jakebe Oh no. Oh gosh, I'm so sorry, that's not fair.
You're welcome to borrow my tail or my eyemask if that will help any. Don't worry about stretching them out.
@jakebe Ooof. I've (obviously) been there; it's always a miserable experience. I'm really glad to hear that the severance at least was okay. I definitely wouldn't sell your set of skills short, though; they're still useful ones — it's 'just' a matter of making sure people can see them. I definitely wish you luck, and if there's anything I can do to help please let me know!
@jakebe Ack. Hopefully you will land on your feet. (I have been given mild concerns about my job, of the "wait, when they went 100% remote because they moved across the entire country, we didn't think it was permanent" variety, so that's fun.)
@jakebe I’m so sorry. That sucks. I hope you’re able to find a new position soon.
@jakebe You're awesome. Whoever you work for or with is lucky to have you.
@MrBookshire
@jakebe this is the correct answer
@jakebe Sympathies. Glad to hear you got severance; make sure you get your final paycheck, too! I've no doubt you'll be fine, but it can still be a rough emotional experience in the short term. If you need support, don't hesitate to ask for it.
@jakebe Oof. Glad you're taking it in stride, at least.
Hope you're able to find another place that's a better fit for you!
