We're coming up on the end of "Flux", Chris Chibnall's third and final season of Doctor Who. I'm very surprised (and pleased) that it feels like he took such a big swing with it; it kinda blows the whole mythos wide open and gives future writers a pristine sandbox to play in.

I'm especially curious to see what Davies keeps when he returns as showrunner. Even if he goes back to his version of Who, someone is going to use what Chibnall did here as a jumping-off point for something truly inspired.

Doctor Who spoilers ('Flux')

@jakebe I'm sorry to say I didn't enjoy Flux as much as you did. I loved so many of the ideas of it (Pre-First Doctor regenerations! Space Doggos! The Doctor becomes a Weeping Angel!) but I never followed the story well enough to feel connected to it. (I grant I was undiagnosed-depressed watching and that may have affected matters.)

I admit not liking The Doctor as The Most Important Time Lord Ever, but I know a lot of fans do, so, they should enjoy it.

re: Doctor Who spoilers ('Flux')

@Austin_Dern I've heard that criticism a lot, actually -- folks said a big problem with Flux is that it's really confusing to follow.

I haven't found that to be the case, but overall the season does have this tendency to build toward some "final" obstacle that can't be overcome in the final moments, only to have it wrap up neatly in the next episode somehow. I don't mind it a LOT, but it does feel a little cheap the fourth or fifth time. >.>

And I hear you about The Doctor being the Progenitor of all Time Lords, but I think it allows for future runs that aren't *quite* so Dalek/Cybermen/Weeping Angel-heavy. It feels like a chance to reset Doctor Who to tell fresher stories, as long as they let the Doctor stop being the Most Important Person in the Room (which, OK, now that I say it out loud, I know they won't).

re: Doctor Who spoilers ('Flux')

@jakebe You might be a better audience than I am! I've been in some kind of fiction-reader's block lately, not doing well with any stories more complicated than, well, Harvey Comics. Don't know how much of that was how miserable I was after being laid off and whether I'd have an easier time of it now.

I remember really, really liking the character designs. Even when they felt over-the-top they were interestingly over-the-top.
