The watchwords for left organizing now need to be "sustainable" & "accountable."
The antifascist left has been in emergency mode for so long, we need to re-learn how to live when only *some* things are on fire.
And the rest of the left... really needs to learn accountability.

But I still think about the people who've been swept up in this fascist insanity, all of our family and friends and neighbors. I hope there's eventually a way to repair those relationships, or forge new ones, when those people own up to all of their horrific words and deeds.
I know I can't bring myself to really think about it still. I'm still so angry and so sad about what's happening. The most empathetic response I can muster is giving them a wide berth. I hope they figure their shit out, but I'm not interested in helping them do it.
Nervous about posting this, because people confuse empathy with forgiveness or unity. But it's not.
It's imagining yourself in their position, dangling from a cliff with no one to blame but yourself, and thinking how you would want to be treated in that situation.
I think the best we can do for those people is leave them to their own process. Yes, there should be consequences for all the horrible shit they've done and endorsed.
But they're still people, bound to the same emotional illogic all of us are. Empathy is needed.

Bernie’s mittens are made by Jen Ellis, a teacher from Essex Junction, Vt. She gave them to him 2+ years ago and was surprised when he began wearing them on the campaign trail. They are made from repurposed wool sweaters and lined with fleece made from recycled plastic bottles.

He's gone. And now, it is up to us to drive out what he represents. He is lies and bigotry and injustice and tyranny embodied--and the work is only beginning to drive him out of our body politic.
Joy, today.
Resolve, tomorrow.

While democracy can be periodically delayed,
It can never be permanently defeated.
In this truth, in this faith we trust.
For while we have our eyes on the future,
History has its eyes on us.

"We’ve seen a force that would shatter our nation rather than share it,
Would destroy our country if it meant delaying democracy.
And this effort very nearly succeeded.
But while democracy can be periodically delayed,
It can never be permanently defeated."

Just am reminder that sometimes the cessation of harm doesn’t bring relief, but processing, and that’s okay.
