The balance of tones is so hard to get right. The story is mostly in small moments that remain fascinating, and the ever-present effects of the disaster provide an unflinching look at death and trauma without feeling exploitative.
I'm really impressed with it so far.
Because apocalyptic fiction will always be strangely comfortable to be, I'm binging the Japan Sinks 2020 anime on Netflix.
It's really interesting; it has this slice-of-life feel that comes across as a love for Japan and its people, but punctuated by moments of shocking death.
Each new issue of X-Force really makes me want to get started on that X-Men reimagining I've been cooking up in my brain for the past few years. I'm *really* hoping that he turns out to be the Dark Beast in disguise or something, because my heart. ;.;
