It feels like every great book I'm supposed to read features a male protagonist whose arc is basically "lusting over this young girl made me believe in things again" and I can never ever ever take that character journey seriously

In the US our political choices are:
1. Party actively dismantling the democratic process in favor of fascism, or;
2. Party unwilling to recognize the political crisis or fight for anything most of the country actually wants.
It's incredibly disheartening.
