Why is it so hard to find quiet mechanical keyboards?

@Rosemary Brown switches? Or I think you can get little rubber o-rings to help dampen sound.

@jasper We would want something about as quiet as our current keyboard, which is a chiclet keyboard on a laptop. We've heard recordings, and none of them really seem quiet enough except for this one Topre keyboard marketed as "silent"--except that keyboard costs $270.

It's hard to find quality mechanical keyboards. Also I messed up before, red switches would probably be better. I think the closest you might get is red silent switches with o-rings, but I'm not quite sure how audible that'd be.

@jasper Linear switches don't seem like what we'd want; we're used to a distinct tactile feel to them like you get with rubber dome and membrane keyboards.

@Rosemary Yeah! I hope y'all can find one that works out for you! I'd definitely watch around black friday/cyber monday for cheaper options so you're not out an arm and a leg for it. Best of luck in the search!

@jasper We've already got a decent enough membrane keyboard, so we're not urgently in need of anything--it's just a little larger than I'd like is all. Our main concern right now is getting the mouse and graphics card, both of which we've already picked out: a logitech G502 and a Gigabyte nVidia GTX 1060 6gb. That's already going to run us over $300 so we're probably not going to worry about the keyboard for a while!
