It seems strange to me that a generation of people who used to routinely show their kids cartoons featuring a male-coded rabbit who really loved dressing super femme and seducing his adversaries, now largely has such a rigid view of gender.

There's a reason why I chose this example, by the way.

Warner cartoons are full of characters who you're supposed to laugh at. With Daffy Duck, he's often the punchline of the jokes, even as the protagonist of his own cartoon!

But you rarely laugh *at* Bugs Bunny. You always laugh *with* him, even when he messes up. No matter how femme he dresses and acts, the joke is always about the male characters and their sudden change in behaviour around him.

tl;dr Bugs Bunny is a genderfluid icon

@InvaderXan@sunbeam.city another minor but important thing about this imo is that in those situations, Bugs is always drawn unambiguously as "attractive femme", pulling from all the standard visual tropes of the time used to mark a character as an attractive woman. His appearance as femme is never drawn as a joke itself.

@InvaderXan@sunbeam.city ALSO which I just thought of, when the other person inevitably discovers who he is, they aren't like "WHAT, you're really MALE??" they're like "wait! YOU!! YOU'RE THAT SAME DAMN RABBIT!!!!!"
