Contract, Conssumation, Celebration (CW: Parents, relationships, marraige, anniversaries)
Today is my parents 40th anniversary. They renewed their vows at church, who livestreamed the event, and had a song pre-recorded by my little cousin who actually won a record deal on one of those American-Idol type shows.
Everyone was maintaining social distance, and most people actually watched the stream.
i didn't get to hear everything Mom and Dad said cause they wouldn't talk into the mic and the person running the sound screwed up where I wouldn't have.
But it was still nice to see my parent still getting along, wiping their eyes, and still in love with each other.
I learned how to love from my dad (and a few relationship books I read as a kid trying to improve my odds in getting this wonderful thing I'd heard about called a girlfriend) I don't think I figured it all out, but he never missed noticing a hair cut, never forgot Mother's day or their anniversary; Only missed 1 birthday, and then came up with a completely new day (flowers on the first day of spring) that he never forgot to make up for it, and kept that up too. Gestures and sentiment might not be everything, but after 40 years, I think he's at worst not wrong about them.
I can't imagine what I'll feel about my relationships in 40 years, but I hope I get to experience love and commitment that last that long too.

#socialistTeeth is something I actually can't participate in.
None of my icons show teeth.
Anyone open for an icon commission?
re: Working with the River Tribe [update]
I just realized that I was a part of costing Uncle Jeff a lot of money, and he can find out my name and where I live.
But I was also a part of costing Uncle Jeff a lot of money, so I should be able to coast into Heaven on that, right?
Working with the River Tribe [update]
TL,DR: They blinked and they're gonna pay.
Had a special conference call today. The ops team is now getting a thank you bonus. For being on-site through the pandemic so far, and fighting a labor dispute too, and STILL managing to deliver the same high quality service. To be paid out by the end of the month. So that was nice to hear.
On-call is going away. They are dismantling required after-hours for hourly employees.
Its nice to actually see skip levels responding to employee feedback.
Birthdays (CW: Parents, extended family, +)
Hay my birthday Zoom call with my family yesterday. Wasn't intending to have the coming out/name+ pronoun fight, and I didn't.
The call went well, though I don't know that it had to be on Zoom. Probably could've been an email.
But I got some encouraging text from my cousin and his husband, so that's good.
re: Working with the river tribe [UPDATE]
The cluster manager who "led" us through the past few months has been banished from the River Tribe.
The Regional manager is stepping in to lead us directly.
During the call today, I got to unload my 2 talking points
-Web Services makes amazon over 50% of their /profit/ and are considered "essential", but not essential enough to be compensated for being forced to accept the risks of working during the pandemic
-Being told frequently by leadership that they don't have a plan, or can't talk about their plans does not build trust.
re: Working with the river tribe [UPDATE]
Back at work after 2 days of being sick. We sent a message that has apparently been heard.
But I'm not holding my breath. Spend the start of yesterday kinda freaked out, thinking that if the RT sees me not being at work and not noticing much change in the numbers, then they might start questioning if they really need me around. That was a un-fun thing to think about. But I have just trained 3 new contractors in a 4 week period, and I got each one mostly ready to go.
So we'll see what happens. Meanwhile, I'm gonna keep doing my best.

re: Working with the river tribe [UPDATE]
So, now apparently all Essential Workers for the River Tribe are going to get actual hazard pay.
But not me. The River Tribe Web services make the tribe more than half of its profit, but we aren't considered worthy of care.
So a bunch of us are gonna just gonna be sick tomorrow.
re: CW: Father's Day, coming out. UPDATE!
So, I was supposed to call dad yesterday. The anxiety of waiting got the better of me. So I text him and say "Hey. I know I said i was gonna call you, but I don't know how busy i'm gonna be today. Nothing big, I'm just trans. Been on HRT almost 2 years. Thought you should know" Just so I could deal with the familiar anxiety of waiting for a response rather than dreading having a difficult real-time conversation.
He never responded, but mom texted me, saying that I was courageous and still loved.
Me (texting back): Yay!
re: Working with the river tribe [UPDATE]
No additional COVID compensation. "Our procedures are keeping us safe, and we have no additional demand at our data centers unlike our warehouses where we had to increase compensation as an market-driven incentive to draw labor" Basically, they only gave money to the warehouses so they could convince new employees to work for them.
