Reading about The VVitch and understanding why it was so appreciated, and recognising how it then resulted in Hereditary and Midsommar, makes a lot of sense. Definitely need to watch The Lighthouse next, but I think I'll break it up with The Matrix first.

@Fenreliania yeah the lighthouse is pretty intense. its a movie that just keeps happening to you

@Fenreliania probably a different type of intensity. there's things in the lighthouse i havent seen in films before, certainly not films with a theatrical release. it gets pretty weird and pretty disturbing; it's oppressive, almost

@Fenreliania I also haven't watched 10 cloverfield lane but I get the impression its a more... normal movie

@kyra 10 Cloverfield Lane is like 2 hours of tension, the constant threat of violence made stronger by amplified stakes, and frequent paranoia. I guess after I watch The Lighthouse I'll let you know how they compare in that regard, but it's not surreal or anything.

@kyra Hmm, that sounds kind of like my experience with Midsommar, being 3 hours long and feeling increasingly "senseless" (hard to describe what I mean) as it went on.
