The Matrix is still a good movie, but watching it now it's striking how small it is in its scope, especially when compared to the sequels. It's also a lot more cliche than I remember, what with Trinity falling in love over the course of a week for plot reasons.
I also still have very little understanding of the trans reading of the movie, even if it's pretty well accepted now. It's certainly not obvious, at any rate.
@Fenreliania the pills are the same shape and colour as 90's HRT. The matrix is the cishet gender binary and once you leave it people keep trying to kill you, but you get way cooler because you're finally you. Something like that anyways
@kyra the pills I understand and in theory I get the idea of the Matrix as "the cishet gender binary" but, it feels just as much like the Matrix is capitalism or government, or the broad expectations of modern life with your little office job and all that.
