How to fuck up your cat:
1. Give her a movement disorder where she she feels absolutely terrified every time she stops moving.
2. Trap her in a bedroom for two days in a row.

Her parentage will be a HUGE deal, though. Too much money to be made off a big reveal. Ah well. Create the stories you want to see in the world, and all that.

I want Rey to be powerful despite her filthy junk trader parents because I want to be a considerate partner despite the way my dad treated relationships, or a good dog parent despite the way he hit them, or in control of my anger despite my step dad smacking me around. I want her to be greater than the sum of her background because I have to believe I can be greater than the sum of mine.

I think Rey's parents actually being nobodies appeals particularly to folks with complicated relationships with their parents. It's like, stop making people great because their parents are great, because I - with my hecka flawed parents - need to have a chance at greatness, too.

Also having some grumpy feelings about how my writing is all cheap drivel focused on making the reader feel bad for the main character, but that's neither here nor there :P

Considering reading You're Gone at a short story night, but super concerned about how something that's basically a chat log would go over, especially on a MUCK where folks use screen readers.

Weird that a MUCK, a chat-based medium, feels like the wrong space to share a chat.
