Hey Masto

Tell me about your favorite weird gods

@mawr Skadi, Norse goddess of winter, skiing and stuff like that. She is neither technically Aesir nor Vanir; she's a Jotun. She literally marched up to Asgard and demanded marriage the handsomest god as weregild -- and the gods made her choose who had the prettiest *feet*, which turned out to be Aegir, god of the sea, whose feet were really clean!

Skadi isn't really a sea type so this didn't last and she wound up with Uller, an archery god nobody knows all that much about.

@mawr Upaut, or Wepwawet, is basically the Kemetic god you'd think furries would be all over, and they aren't. He's a white jackal or pharaoh hound god, associated with kingship (his name translates as opener of the ways), and military scouts. Sadly I don't know too much about him.

@Leucrotta @mawr *sits up, blinks* uuuuuuuh. for various reasons, THANK YOU. this is... connection-making, for me. :D

@mawr not really weird, just not exactly a big name in the USA; en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bhairava is basically the only Hindu deity I've considered worshiping; I have this gut feeling that very, *very* remote ancestors worshiped him back when they still lived in India. But I don't have any substantial proof of that ancestry.

@mawr Tauert or Taweret is another "you'd think furries would constantly portray her"

@mawr Pomba, or Pomba Gira is "weird" only in that she shows up only in Candomble. (She comes up in Umbanda too, because she's sexy, though I think of her less as about sex, more as a protector). None of the other Afro-Carribean religions. She's an Exu, so her ileke is red and black; she's a goddess of prostitutes, but also bankers and Brazil's Roma (presumably banker was a little more about vulnerability in other cultures and points).

@mawr Siona and Boann are Irish goddesses. There's not much anyone outside Ireland can say about them because they are place goddesses, associated with those two rivers specifically. I'm mentioning them because Siona's a fox and Boann's a cow and again, you'd figure furries would dig drawing them.

@mawr also not a god but a saint; St. Guy of Anderlecht was a humble farmer, whose teams would plough fields for him while he snuck off to get in some extra praying. Medieval sainthood worked on kinda tenuous connections so that makes him the patron saint of draft horses and those who work with them, which is how I know about this, researching what saint might be revered by my Ironclaw character.

@Leucrotta I should have suspected you would have a book ready to write on this subject :D
