okay lol hdmi sound was just set too low but I think my internal soundcard is broken, I guess I'll have to get a cheap PCI soundcard

I can't believe it's 2018 and I'm thinking about buying a PCI soundcard

@noiob if 'cheap' is your primary concern, they make USB sound devices the size of a thumb drive with 3.5mm audio jacks.

If you listen to one you might say 'oh gosh not us$2 cheap' and get a pci card anyway.

If you play with computers a lot might be worth having one spare anyway for troubleshooting/testing.

@Mycroft hm, good idea. In the long run I'd like my front panel connectors to work, though

@noiob Damn, I think I threw my old PCI card away by now... otherwise you could have had it.

(I used it for MIDI input from my e-drumset, which needed low latency. Oh, and for DTS 5.1 encoding.)
